Public meeting – future of St Mary’s Church Little Wakering – Tues 21 September

BARLING MAGNA PARISH COUNCIL will be holding a public meeting on Tuesday 21st September commencing at 7 pm in the Barling Magna Parish Hall, 432 Little Wakering Road, Barling Magna.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for residents to contribute to the discussion on the future of the Grade II* listed building of St Mary the Virgin Church in Little Wakering Road.

Regular services stopped at St Mary’s Church in 2010, due to a declining congregation and the last public service was held was in 2017. It is now proposed that the church be closed. The Church has fallen into a state of extreme disrepair and the Church of England does not have the funds to meet the costs of maintaining and insuring the building. The costs of making the building viable and then the ongoing maintenance and running costs will be a big financial commitment.

Barling Magna Parish Council is seeking the views of the public as to how the community can take over responsibility for the Church so that a plan can be put forward for consideration by the Church Commissioners.

Representatives from the Church of England will be in attendance to join in with the discussion and to answer questions

HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh 1921 – 2021

It was with the greatest sadness that Barling Magna Parish Council learnt of the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh. The Duke of Edinburgh saw active service during the Second World War and, following a successful naval career, steadfastly supported Her Majesty the Queen following her Accession in 1952, becoming the longest serving British consort in 2009.
His Royal Highness was involved in the work of many charities and organisations, the best remembered of which is probably the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The scheme has inspired millions of young people in more than 140 countries to develop skills, experience adventure and to serve their communities.
Our flag is flying at half-mast as the council joins the Royal family and the country in mourning his loss.
Further announcements will be made in due course.

Replacement Bus Shelters in Barling Magna

Barling Magna Parish Council is proposing the replacement of the three wooden bus shelters in the Parish.  All three shelters are in a bad state of repair and the plan is to replace them with rustic wooden shelters, in keeping with the rural nature of the parish.

As a better price can be obtained by replacing the three shelters at the same time, it is likely that external funding will need to be sought to assist in the cost of the replacement of the three shelters.

If you would like further information or like to comment on proposals, please contact the Parish Clerk on 07867577569 or [email protected].

Parish Councillor Vacancy

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that there is a vacancy on the Barling Magna Parish Council for a Councillor to represent the Parish.
